Global Finance awards Standard Bank as Malawi’s top bank

Global Finance magazine has awarded Standard Bank plc as the best bank in Malawi 2026, the fifth time the institution has received the accolade.

Standard Bank plc chief executive Phillip Madinga said the award reflects the confidence customers continue to place in the Malawi Stock Exchange-listed bank and the commitment of its staff nationwide.

“Being recognised by Global Finance as the best bank in Malawi for the fifth time is a meaningful endorsement of the work our teams deliver under complex and often challenging conditions. This recognition belongs to our customers, our colleagues and the communities we serve,” he said.

Madinga said the honour underscores Standard Bank’s focus on financial stability, disciplined risk management and dependable service delivery during a demanding macroeconomic period.

Over the past year, Standard Bank plc prioritised digital capability, financial inclusion and advisory support for key sectors of the Malawian economy, including agriculture, manufacturing and energy.

Reflecting on the milestone, Madinga said: “Five recognitions are not a finish line. They are a reminder that expectations remain high. Our focus is to continue improving how we serve our customers, respond to their evolving needs and support the people and businesses.”

Announcing the 2026 winners, Global Finance, headquartered in New York, USA, said the banks that have been recognised had responded thoughtfully to customer needs in difficult markets, managed risk effectively and positioned themselves for future success amid global economic uncertainty.
